Certified Buildings

As a reflection of the university’s dedication to sustainability in higher education, four buildings across LAU’s campuses have earned certificates in recognition of their sustainable design and operations. The certifications showcase LAU’s deep commitment to reducing its ecological footprint and supporting a more environmentally friendly way of operating.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certificate is a globally valued holistic green building rating system. A LEED certificate showcases adherence to overall resource efficiency and positive impact on the community and public health.

AT LAU, two buildings were granted a LEED Gold Certification; the Joseph G. Jabbra Library and the Riyad Nassar Central Administration Building on the Byblos campus.

Excellence for Design and Greater Efficiencies

The Excellence for Design and Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) is an internationally recognized certification for sustainable eco-friendly architecture as well as energy efficiency.

Currently, two building at LAU hold an EDGE certificate. Tohme-Rizk Hall was the first building in Lebanon to earn an EDGE certification in 2015 pursuant to its green renovation.

Five years later, the Gezairi building, which hosts the School of Architecture and Design (SArD), received its very own EDGE certificate.
