Community Engagement

Community Engagement at LAU means fostering a sustainability mindset among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local communities by serving as a hub for diverse expertise and experiences to engage in and influence sustainability research, education and outreach and enhancing broader university activities related to sustainability.

LAU signs an MOU with the Georges N. Frem Foundation, launching a strategic partnership with the Industrial Hub to advance innovation, education and national development.

Convened at the Adnan Kassar School of Business, leaders from government, international organizations and the private sector explored how innovation, sustainability and human capital can reshape Lebanon’s industrial future.

In collaboration with the Celiac Association–Lebanon, the LAU Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the School of Arts and Sciences launched an awareness initiative at the national level to empower patients, educate the public, and drive policy conversations around gluten-free nutrition.

Organized by the Arab Institute for Women (AiW) in collaboration with the Departments of Psychology and Education, and Communication, Mobility and Identity (CMI) of the School of Arts and Sciences launched “Off Limits: Child Marriage Pack”, a bilingual card game that protests child marriage.

Developed in the School of Engineering labs by a team of students, a fire detection tool has already shown promising potential and was well-received by the Lebanese Civil Defense.

In an engaging town hall, Minister of State for Administrative Reform (OMSAR) Fadi Makki presented the Reinventing Government 2030 project to LAU students, faculty and members, stressing that Lebanon’s fragmented public sector offers not despair but opportunity for reform.

Pharmacy faculty went on several community interventions with LAU’s Mobile Clinic to provide essential primary care services, screenings, and dispense medications and hygiene kits to those in need.

The Leadership and Outreach Programs at the Outreach Leadership and Empowerment office (OLE) aim to empower students through hands-on learning, professional development, and civic engagement. These initiatives foster innovation, cross-cultural dialogue, and leadership skills, preparing students to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.

As part of the Leadership and Outreach Programs and funded by the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, DIALOGUE connects Lebanese and American high school students on the principles of good governance, social justice, inclusiveness, leadership, and civic engagement.

As part of their curriculum, students at the School of Engineering (SOE) are required to complete a civic engagement course where they must sustainably address social issues. This course empowers student to be responsible engineers whose duty is to improve the community.

In an initiative called Medication for All, students from the LAU School of Pharmacy mobilized the collection and distribution of critical medications and health supplies to hundreds of families temporarily housed in schools across the country during the war on Lebanon.

The LAU School of Pharmacy is forging national partnerships that aim to reshape pharmacy education, training, and practice. Through its landmark symposium, United in Action, LAU brought together stakeholders from four other pharmacy schools in Lebanon, alongside government, military, pharmaceutical, and health professions representatives.

The LAU Clinical Simulation Center of the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine, in collaboration with the Youth Organization Heart Awareness (YOHAN) promoted the Hands-Only CPR program designed to raise awareness in schools and the community about sudden cardiac arrest.

Nursing students and faculty responded swiftly and compassionately in times of crisis by joining the LAU Mobile Clinic on several missions.

The LAU Mobile Clinics were deployed to support Lebanon’s displaced in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health’s assigned primary healthcare provider—the Beirut Association for Social Development (BASD)–Health Sector— and as part of the university’s Emergency Relief for Lebanon.

After the war on Lebanon, the School of Architecture and Design (SArD) held a symposium then an exhibition in partnership with the the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute of Beirut to support the sustainable construction and rehabilitation of Lebanon post-war.

By igniting curiosity, promoting hands-on learning, and fostering sustainability beyond the classroom, these camps ensure the development of a well-informed, socially responsible generation of leaders.

LAUIH is dedicated to the development of industries for a flourishing community. LAUIH extends its support to Lebanese companies looking to make their innovative ideas come true. The services provided by the LAUIH foster sustainable growth in Lebanese industries.

Over 30 senior students from the Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing organized an open health fair at Byblos High School, addressing pressing health concerns such as diabetes, hypertension, colon cancer, bullying, and burn care.

The engineering school has joined the Mediterranean Network of Engineering and Management Schools, a global, non-profit, membership-driven organization dedicated to improving engineering and management education and addressing sustainability-related issues in the Mediterranean region.

OLE launched Lebanon’s first consultancy case competition. The LAU Case Competition (LAU CC) challenges undergraduate students to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to real-world business challenges. The competition enhances critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, preparing future leaders to drive sustainable innovation.

Students at the Adnan Kassar School of Business (AKSOB) developed and delivered a dashboard that allows the Lebanese Red Cross to view and monitor the peak-time rates of their call takers. This sustains the wellbeing and productivity of the operations team.
