Adnan Kassar School of Business

At the Adnan Kassar School of Business (AKSOB), sustainability is woven into the practices of the school. Embodying the Conscientious Education and Community Outreach pillars of the Sustainability Strategy, AKSOB empowers students to tackle real-world challenges through innovative solutions.

Conscientious Education

The Adnan Kassar School of Business (AKSOB) endorses the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) into its academic programs, research agenda, institutional culture and regional partnerships. These principles promote purpose-driven education, values-based leadership, sustainability integration and collaborative engagement aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

One way students are encouraged to embed sustainability into business practices is through extracurricular opportunities and competitions. A prime example is the Waste to Wealth (W2W) project, led by Assistant Professor Joelle Nader in collaboration with her students. This groundbreaking initiative transforms food waste into non-perishable, high-value products, aligning with 14 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Community Engagement

Moderated by members of the Adnan Kassar School of Business, the “Reinventing Government 2030” town hall, presented by Minister of State for Administrative Reform Fadi Makki at both LAU campuses, gathered local municipalities, community members, faculty, and students. The minister unveiled a bottom-up plan for transparency, accountability and citizen-driven governance, sparking a dialogue on reform and student-led change in Lebanon.
A packed panel discussion organized by the Adnan Kassar School of Business brought together national and international leaders to examine the opportunities and challenges shaping Lebanon’s industrial landscape and explore how innovation, sustainability and institutional reform intersect in the country’s path toward industrial renewal

Students from AKSOB also lead sustainability initiatives of their own. As part of their Introduction to Applied Data Analytics course, students developed and delivered a dashboard that allows the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC) to view and monitor the peak-time rates of their call takers. This student-lead project contributes to the sustainable wellbeing and productivity of the LRC operations team.
