OfS Projects
The Office for Sustainability (OfS) leads and supports a diverse portfolio of projects that translate strategy into action across LAU and beyond. This page showcases both externally funded and collaborative projects, where OfS acts as a lead or partner with local and international stakeholders, as well as internal initiatives implemented within LAU to enhance campus sustainability and innovation.
These projects span key areas including research, community engagement, resource management, and capacity building, reflecting LAU’s commitment to creating measurable environmental, social, and economic impact. Together, they demonstrate how the university serves as a living platform for sustainability: advancing solutions, fostering partnerships, and driving real-world change.

The “Update the Sustainable Energy Strategy for the Lebanese Army Forces (LAF)” project aims to update and modernize the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Sustainable Energy Strategy (2017) to enhance energy efficiency, increase renewable energy adoption, and reduce operational costs and emissions. It will deliver a data-driven, nationally aligned roadmap through 2035, supporting LAF’s transition toward a more resilient, sustainable, and energy-secure system. |
| The “NUSTALGIC” project aims to enhance climate resilience in Mediterranean dryland farming systems by integrating innovative water harvesting technologies with the cultivation of neglected and underutilized crop species (NUS). It brings together multiple stakeholders to co-design, test, and scale sustainable agricultural practices that improve water efficiency, soil health, and farmers’ livelihoods across participating countries. | |

The “Resourcing War Rubble” initiative converts war rubble (Construction and Demolition Waste – CDW) into safe construction materials and integrates them into prefabricated building components that meet key performance and cost criteria. It also develops a scalable, rapid-deployment model for post-conflict housing reconstruction. This approach reduces environmental risks from debris while generating local employment opportunities. |
